LAZURICK, ROBERT
LAZURICK, ROBERT (1895–1968), French journalist, founder and editor in chief of the daily paper L'Aurore. Lazurick was born in Paris of Russian-Jewish parents. He studied law and for some years he was an official in French ministries. In 1936 he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies for the Socialist Party. After the French defeat in 1940, he escaped to Morocco, but returned to France in 1942 at the height of Nazi power and founded L'Aurore clandestinely in Nice, taking the name of Clemenceau's journal which had published zola 's J'accuse in 1898. L'Aurore became a leading newspaper in Paris after World War II, expressing staunch support for Israel.
